If we do see someone exhibiting suicide warning signs, we need to do everything that we can to help them. Untreated mental illness (including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and others) is the cause for the vast majority of suicides.
Untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide. You are not depressed when you feel sad for a day or two; you are depressed when you experience a prolonged period of sadness that interferes with your ability to function.
Because of a mental disorder--People with depression, or a similar disorder, cannot think straight because they have a chemical imbalance in their brain. And that is good. That is very good. Almost everyone who is suicidal is ambivalent about dying-leaning towards suicide at one instant, and then leaning towards living the next. Suicidal feelings are complex.
So if a depressed or suicidal student is withdrawn and is reluctant to get treatment, what will happen? The student may die by suicide. And children need to know that they can speak up when there is a problem that they need help with. Again, constant, open communication is imperative.
Depression is a prolonged feeling of unhappiness and gloom. The condition can range from a short spell of "the blues" to chronic long term sadness. There are no real best treatments for depression, no one medication, there isn't one type of psychotherapy, nor even one set of exercises will help rid you of your depression.
Single parents already have a tremendous challenge on their hands, but they must realize the potential for additional stress their children may feel because of the absence of the other parent
It may have its start or be exacerbated by events in a person`s life, such as a death in the family, divorce, retirement or childbirth. Someone with chronic depression may contemplate suicide.
Big reason for this is because we are all different and we also respond differently to the different treatments. For instance one person may respond better to psychotherapy in comparison to some other form of medication, etc. There are a variety of different treatments for depression; again whether these best treatments for depression are effective depends largely on the individual and how they respond:
